Position Title Senior SQL Server Database Administrator
Closing Date September 7, 2008

Preamble

Estimate start date is November 1, 2008

The contract services period may be up to, but not exceed, thirty-six (36) months, with an estimated 150 work hours per month.  All work must be performed on-site at the Client headquarter facility in Sacramento, California.

Experience

The Contractor must have:

bullet

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

bullet

Experience as a DBA for Microsoft's SQL Server 2000 and 2005 in both clustered and nonclustered environments

Highly Desirable

The Contractor should have a minimum of five (5) years of Senior SQL Server DBA experience that includes the following listed activities:

bullet

Experience as a DBA for Microsoft's SQL Server 2008

bullet

Create, modify, and tune databases and files

bullet

Overall performance tuning

bullet

Database and file sizing and monitoring

bullet

Problem resolution as required in providing 24x7 support

bullet

System documentation

bullet

Database design review

bullet

Storage management

bullet

Production monitoring

bullet

Backup and recovery

bullet

Other database administration related duties

Preferred

The Contractor should have demonstrated experience using the following listed products and features:

bullet

SQL Server Reporting Services

bullet

Windows 2003

bullet

TOAD (for SQL Server)

bullet

SQL Server encryption

bullet

Familiarity with cross domain networks

bullet

Familiarity with n-tier architecture

Proposed Personnel will be evaluated for expertise, education, and experience in the following areas:

bullet

Knowledge of and experience with SQL Server and related tools

bullet

Experience in mentoring database administrators

bullet

Knowledge of and experience with SQL Server Clusters

Scope of Work Summary

bullet

Provide expert guidance within the SQL Server Database administration area

bullet

Provide leadership in the resolution of technical issues

bullet

Support organization’s use of SQL Server through database design review and database monitoring

bullet

Work with developers on database design and guiding development staff on best practices

bullet

Independently provide problem resolution

bullet

Maintain high database availability, performance, and recoverability

bullet

Perform database reorganizations

bullet

Perform backup and recovery planning and execution

bullet

Provide suggestions for improvement to SQL Server environments

bullet

Develop and maintain documentation

bullet

Adhere to Client’ methodologies including change management, and System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

bullet

Mentor other DBA staff (with varied levels of experience) to raise their level of knowledge, skills, and abilities

bullet

Train other DBA staff (with varied levels of experience) by best practice demonstrations of the following activities:

 
bullet

Creating, modifying and tuning databases and files

bullet

Overall performance tuning

bullet

Clustered SQL Server operations - from install to maintenance

bullet

Database and file sizing and monitoring

bullet

Problem resolution and on-call support as required in providing 24x7 support

bullet

Developing and maintaining system documentation

bullet

Database analysis and design

bullet

Mentoring
