Position Title User Interface Consultant

Preamble

The total services period may be up to thirty-six (36) months, with an estimated 150 work hours per month. However, any initial contract resulting from this requirement will have an end term of June 30, 2010.

All work must be performed on-site at the Client facility in Sacramento, California. The selected contractor is responsible for all travel costs that may be associated with providing services on this assignment.

In the past five years, the Client has experienced increasing demand for Web applications as front-end user interfaces to access mainframe data. Consequently, the Client has identified a need to provide members with more online services to provide optimum customer service.

Vendor assistance and guidance will be necessary to mitigate risk and complete online services in a timely manner.

The Client needs a User Interface expert with best practice knowledge to ensure that the Client web interfaces are properly designed and implemented.

Experience

It is highly desirable for the contractor to have the following listed experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Five-plus (5+) years experience working on large-scale, dynamic and creatively sound websites.

bullet

Experience using Adobe Photoshop, Flash (including Action-Scripting), Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Javascript, Microsoft .Net Visual Studio integrated development environment (IDE), Net AJAX technology (and control toolkit), HTML, and CSS.

bullet

Strong knowledge of standards and best practices for online media, including user interface, user experience design and information architecture as well as impressive samples of work in the online world

bullet

Strong understanding and practice of the importance of designing to meet business and project objectives

bullet

Strong conceptual skills, a meticulous eye for detail, and the ability to take a project from inception to completion

bullet

Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams in a collaborative, teamwork environment

bullet

Ability to take and give creative direction and go through iterative rounds of revisions to deliver best work

bullet

Strong project management skills with ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects to meet tight deadlines

bullet

Understanding of Web 2.0 practices, applications, design practices and trends

bullet

A design degree (Bachelor/Masters in graphic design, digital media design or other visual arts)

 

Proposed contractor will be evaluated for expertise, education, and experience in the following categories:

Experience in and knowledge of User Interface design, including certifications and/or credentials

bullet

Experience in and knowledge of User Interface / User Experience / Information Architecture best practices and secure implementation

bullet

Experience in knowledge transfer / training personnel on User Interface industry best practices and implementation

Scope of Work Summary

Primary Responsibilities

 

bullet

Develop a broad range of high-quality creative solutions / concepts that are new, refreshing, and exciting

bullet

Work closely with team and cross-functional groups to define and create designs that deliver on achieving business objectives and satisfying user experiences

bullet

Create engaging high-quality design solutions for websites and business tools

bullet

Design landing pages, color schemes, custom graphics, micro sites, and develop other site elements

bullet

Demonstrate expert capability with User Interface (UX), User Experience (UX) and Information Architecture (IA) for all aspects of the web presences and efforts

bullet

Recommend and design solutions for user interfaces, menus, navigation, and user experience flows

bullet

Design efforts using information architecture, creative flows, balance, and capitalization of user expectations

bullet

Ensure interface meets project requirements and stakeholder expectations

bullet

Participate in all website design / specifications and contribute to the business roadmap from user experience, production and operational workflow, and design perspectives

bullet

Maintain design consistency and brand identity across all projects

 

Deliverables will Include:

Weekly status reports

bullet

Detailed plan(s) for User Interface efforts

bullet

Documented findings of assessments, proposal, and observations

bullet

Documents containing all recommendations pertaining to policy, process, design and practice related to UI best practices
